Personal Microderm (PMD) Pro Review

I purchased the PMD Pro because I was thinking about getting a microdermabrasion treatment done at the dermatologist but seeing that it can cost anywhere between $100-175 or more per treatment I thought, why not just purchase my own microdermabrasion device? So I got to searching and came across this device and I saw that it got really good reviews so I decided to order it. There’s the regular PMD which costs $159 and the PMD pro which costs $199. I will only be reviewing the PMD Pro since that’s the one I purchased. I decided to get the PMD Pro because it has 2 speeds where the regular PMD only has one. I also used a coupon code and only paid $169 after tax. I purchased mine from their official website (Click here to view). The PMD Pro can also be purchased from Sephora but I chose to buy it from the official website because of the discount. After reading my review if you decide you’re interested in buying it, I recommend buying it from the official website and looking up coupon codes on Retail Me Not.

Here’s some common questions and answers about the PMD Pro:

  • How does it work? A spinning disc buffs away dead skin cells and the device sucks them up simultaneously.
  • What are the results? This reveals newer, younger, fresher looking skin. Over time it will also reduce pore size, fine lines, and can also help to reduce acne and acne scarring.
  • Is this safe? Yes it is safe and it is VERY important that you pay attention to and follow the directions. You shouldn’t use this device more than once a week.
  • When will I see results? Consistency is definitely key and I really started noticing results my third week.
  • How does it compare to a microdermabrasion treatment done by a dermatologist? I can’t compare my results to the results from a dermatologist session since I have never gotten one but I can say that I read many reviews where people said the PMD and PMD Pro gave the same results as a microdermabrasion treatment done by a dermatologist.
  • Is it worth the money? Yes. Considering how much just 1 session can cost at a dermatologist, it is definitely worth buying your own device. After that, your only cost is the replacement discs. You can get a pack of 4 discs for the face, 2 for the body, and 1 replacement filter for $20. Considering you can use each disc 3-4 times it should last you quite awhile.

Some other little notes:

  • This device is not going to give you a facelift and make you look 15 years younger.
  • Consistency is key! If you don’t notice results after the first time don’t give up.
  • Do not use any products containing retinol 2 days before or after a treatment.
  • While doing the treatment do not hold the device in the same spot for too long or go over the same area twice.
  • Do not use it around the eye area or over your eyebrows.
  • Do not use on a wet or damp face or while any product is on your face, it won’t work.
  • About the replacement discs: there are different discs for different levels of coarseness. I am currently using the coarsest one and it gives the best results. I don’t recommend starting here though, you have to work your way up to this level depending on your skin’s sensitivity. My skin is pretty resilient and tough because I have acne-prone skin so by my third time I was already using the highest level. The lower levels weren’t doing anything for me.
