5 Ways To Keep Your Clothes Looking New
Happy New Year! I’m back to posting after taking a pretty long break! This is a topic I’ve wanted to write about for a while now. I cringe every time I see or hear when people throw ALL of their clothes into the dryer!!! This brings me to my first tip…
1. The Dryer is your ENEMY
Well, most of the time. I know it’s easy to just throw everything in the dryer and hope for the best but it’s so bad for your clothing! I hang dry 99% of my clothes, even underwear! The only items I put in the dryer are socks, some pajamas, and baggy T-shirts. By hang-drying your clothing it prevents fading, shrinking, and just overall wear. One of the biggest mistakes is to put jeans in the dryer! You can get so much more wear out of them by hang-drying them and they won’t shrink or fade. I use a drying rack like this one from Target, Click on the photo to view or buy:
2. Use the delicate setting and wash in cold water
It’s there for a reason, take advantage of it! Anything that has sequins, beading, lace, or thin material needs to washed on the delicate cycle and turned inside out. When I do my laundry I separate it into 5 different loads: normal lights, normal darks, delicate lights, delicate darks, and jeans. I know this may sound tedious but it’s worth it! I also wash anything that might leak dye by itself or if I buy something new and it tells me to wash it by itself. I also wash all my clothes in cold water.
3. Use a stain remover spray and a toothbrush
I’m always getting makeup or food stains on my clothes so I use a stain remover spray when I do laundry. If you have a tough stain that’s kind of sunken in wet the area, spray the stain remover, let it sink in for a second, and then take a wet toothbrush and gently scrub on the stain and it should come out or almost completely out before you wash it.
4. Use a steam iron instead of a regular iron
I have a travel-size steam iron and I love it. It gets the wrinkles out easier than a regular iron and it’s better for your clothes because it’s just steam, not a hot iron plate touching your clothing. I take it with me when I travel too! Click on the photo to view or buy from Target:
5. Carry a Tide Pen with you
I always carry a Tide Pen in my purse and when I need it I’m always glad I have it. The best way to prevent a stain from becoming permanent is to treat it as soon as it happens and using the Tide Pen makes a big difference. For the guys, I know you’re not going to carry around a Tide Pen but you can keep one in your car or tell your girlfriend she should carry one with her. (hehe)
